In a recent CNBC interview, Donald Trump, speaking while appearing to be struggling to stay upright, stated he does not know how to pull U.S. troops out of the ongoing conflict with Iran.
He explained, “We were in Vietnam for 19 years (although active combat was 8 years),” he said. However in April, he stated that we had been in Vietnam for 18 years. “We were in Afghanistan for approximately ten years. We were in the Korean War forever. I am choosing to ignore the two largest wars in history — WW1 & WW2.”
The current war with Iran, which was originally supposed to take only four to five weeks by Trump’s accounts, has last four months. And Trump’s suiggestion that this war will not last another ten years or twenty is hardly reassuring.
“I have been here for four months. What have I accomplished? I have defeated them militarily. They are completely defeated militarily,” claimed Donald Trump. Approximately two months prior, Trump told a similar story claiming that Iran’s military “is completely defeated.”
Trump’s complete lack of credibility became apparent immediately after making those statements. “They still have some missiles left,” he said. As Trump began boasting about his military prowess, he failed to recognize that he was simultaneously admitting that the “completely defeated” military has been able to carry out attacks against the United States.
“I attacked them three times last week very heavily because they launched a drone at one of our ships. I hit ’em, and then they did something else and I hit ’em again.”
“And we are currently negotiating. And we will find out if — ” Trump continued. “I believe they are close to agreeing to almost all of what we need.”
No other person could possibly demonstrate such ignorance as to both claim you won a war and have absolutely no knowledge of when the war will come to an end.
Trump contradicts himself in successive statements: “They’re totally defeated militarily. They have some missiles left.”
