London murder rate: Numbers defy trending herd mentality

We’ve been hearing a lot about London and all of its problems lately, including mass protests, rioting, and suppossed out-of-control violent crime. But right wing conservatives and social media are creating a gap between reality and public perception.

For example, despite London achieving historic lows in crime, President Trump has repeatedly claimed that London is unsafe.

In November 2025, he asserted that certain areas of London were undesirable, claiming that “people were being stabbed in the ass or worse.” He told the press that crime rates in London were “through the roof.”

“… Stabbed in the ass or worse.” If nothing else, you’ve gotta love the humor.

He also claimed there are “no-go” zones where police refuse to patrol, stating, “You have areas in London and in Paris where police don’t even want to go anywhere near those areas.”

Seriously?

And in March 2026, he escalated his rhetoric by predicting London wanted to “go to sharia law” He has also attributed crime trends to London’s diversity and immigration, suggesting that Mayor Sadiq Khan “gets elected because so many people have come in.”

20.7% – Asian
13.5% – Black
5.7% – Mixed
6.3% – Other ethnic backgrounds

The Truth
London recorded just 97 homicides in 2025, an 11% drop from the previous year (109) and the lowest since 2014. The per capita homicide rate of 1.1 per 100,000 residents was lowest rate since homocide rate records began.

When asked about the disparity between Trump’s repeated assertions and London’s 2025 record-low homicide figures, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson stated, “President Trump is correct,” claiming crime trends have risen in London by citing data that includes online fraud. She added, “These are the repercussions of a radical left agenda that supports unchecked migration from developing nations.”

Online fraud?

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley directly countered Trump’s claims about London’s crime trends, calling them “complete nonsense.”

Rowley stated, “The homicide rate in London is lower than every single US state. It’s lower than all their big cities. The murder rate in New York, last time I looked, is three or four times higher than London per capita.”

Incidentally, London’s murder rate is not lower than that of all of the U.S. states.

London’s mayor accused Trump of spreading “distortion and untruths” about London’s safety and reminded him that record numbers of Americans continue visiting London to study, invest, and live.

What about overall crime in London, not just the homicide rate?

London has a relatively low crime rate compared to many other major global cities, consistently ranking among the safest capitals in the world.
