Fox News Media announced Thursday that Maria Bartiromo is out effective immediately after 12½ years, with no on-air farewell and no explanation. Her bio was pulled from the site the same day. She hadn’t appeared on any Fox program since August 9. Fox calls it “a business decision.
Status’s Oliver Darcy reported that in July, Fox Business management privately instructed senior staff not to lend credibility to Trump’s claims about the 2020 election and China — and that Bartiromo passed that guidance to the White House.
Puck’s Dylan Byers added the mechanism: she screenshotted a Fox Business executive’s directive that she not pursue a China/2020 voter-conspiracy story and sent it to senior White House officials. Fox learned about it when the White House called, and concluded it violated her contract. CNN’s source frames her motive as showing the White House she wasn’t the one killing the coverage.
Keep in mind, this is unconfirmed. However, if it’s true, Bartiromo allegedly showed a greater allegiance to Trump and The White House than her employer, Fox News. She essentially told White House staff to blame Fox News – and not her – for her refusal to give credibility to Trump’s bogus 2020 election claims.
Fox News actually fired someone this time instead of doubling down until it costs another $787 million.

Of course, all of this is speculation.
According to reporting originating with Status and subsequently corroborated or discussed by the Los Angeles Times, Mediaite and others, here’s a timeline of what reportedly happened:
- Trump gave a primetime address in July in which he revived claims involving China and the 2020 election.
- Fox management reportedly sent internal written guidance telling senior employees not to give credence to the disputed election claims.
- Trump or someone in the White House apparently questioned Bartiromo about why Fox wasn’t covering those claims.
- Bartiromo allegedly told the White House that Fox management had ordered the claims not to be covered—and shared the internal message containing Fox’s instructions.
- That disclosure reportedly constituted sharing confidential company information and violated the terms of her employment agreement.
If true, The White House may have unintentionally thrown a strong Trump supporter under the bus. That stated, Bartiromo, by sharing the office screenshot, tried to throw her employer under the bus.
These things happen when parties lie. The Trump White House is lying about election claims while Fox News, having already lost $785,500,000 in a lawsuit in 2023, is understandably nervous about backing Trump’s claims of election fraud again.
In 2021, Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox News for defamation, alleging the network repeatedly aired false claims that Dominion’s voting machines helped rig the 2020 presidential election against Donald Trump.
Of note, Patrick Ignozzi, executive producer of “Mornings with Maria,” was fired the same day. Bartiromo has said nothing publicly. The White House hasn’t responded.
Again, this is pure speculation.
