Unlike much of the internet, 247Politics.org maintains a strict comment policy to keep discussions productive, respectful, and welcoming.
Whether you are a longtime commenter or visiting for the first time, here’s what you need to know.
If your comment does not appear immediately after you post it, it may have been automatically flagged for moderation. Several factors can trigger a review, so please avoid reposting the same comment repeatedly or contacting us before allowing time for a moderator to review it.
Comments may be flagged for the following reasons:
- Use of curse words or slurs included on our blacklist. Some words may be appropriate in context, and a moderator may approve those comments when warranted.
- Posting from a Disqus account without a verified email address.
- Automated filtering errors. Occasionally, a comment may be flagged for no clear reason.
- Reports from other readers. Please do not misuse the reporting feature simply because you disagree with someone. False or excessive reports make moderation more difficult.
The following types of comments may be deleted:
- Jokes, insults, or hostile remarks about someone’s physical appearance, including commenters, writers, or people mentioned in an article.
- Hate speech, harassment, or deliberately abusive behavior.
The following behavior may result in a ban:
- Repeatedly engaging in behavior that would otherwise result in comment deletion.
- Posting an especially egregious abusive, hateful, or harassing comment—particularly as a first-time commenter. We generally issue one warning before banning a user, unless the conduct is severe or clearly part of a pattern.
- Demonstrating a consistent pattern of disruptive behavior, whether on 247Politics.org or other Disqus-enabled sites. Disqus allows moderators to review public commenting patterns across its platform, and that information may be considered when deciding whether to ban an account.
- “Hate commenting.” If your activity suggests that you visit primarily to provoke arguments, attack the site, or oppose every article involving our core topics, rather than participate in good-faith discussion, your account may be banned. You are free to read the site, but not to repeatedly disrupt its comment section.
Editors reserve the right to ban any user whose conduct harms the quality, tone, or community atmosphere of the comments section, the website, or the experience of regular readers.
